Dear Team,
I would like to express my sincere gratitude for the opportunity to be part of this esteemed group. As a newcomer to the realm of Internet of Things (IoT), I have diligently conducted extensive research, which has led me to conclude that Hive stands as the most commendable broker for seamless integration with the Thingsboard platform.
Consequently, I have devised a plan to acquire the necessary skills to effectively transmit data from a PLC (Programmable Logic Controller) through the employment of the Modbus protocol, ensuring secure communication via an EWON gateway. Subsequently, I aim to establish a connection between the EWON gateway and the Hive cloud, and further proceed to synchronize the data with the Thingsboard platform, thus enabling the creation of an intuitive and comprehensive dashboard. It is worth noting that all data transmissions will be securely executed using TLS (Transport Layer Security) encryption.
Given the complexity of this undertaking, I humbly request the assistance of any willing team member who possesses the requisite knowledge and experience to guide me through this process. Your support would be invaluable, and I am truly grateful for any assistance provided.
Best regards,
Aravind
Hello @Aravind ,
Thank you for the outreach, and welcome to the HiveMQ Community!
Based on the information provided, it seems that first and foremost we may need to look into the MQTT client that will be used. Reviewing the EWON boards, it does appear that they have an MQTT client available, and some details on implementation available on their forums here. This may be a great place to start, as it offers introductory implementation details.
As for TLS configuration, the server CA file for HiveMQ Cloud implementations is available via our FAQ page, or linked here.
As it sounds like this project will rely on the MQTT protocol, and will require some custom implementation, I would also recommend reviewing our MQTT essentials series, if you have not already reviewed it in your research, as this offers some great insight into MQTT as a whole - this can be viewed here.

Thank you for your response. I have an additional question regarding the potential cost associated with purchasing a broker and deploying it in a different cloud platform of my choosing.
- Will the broker be provided free of charge?
- Can it be customized, for instance, at a rate of 50£ per month for a specific number of Gateways?
Your support would be invaluable, and I am truly grateful for any assistance provided.
Hello @Aravind ,
We do have a variety of broker options available, ranging from our HiveMQ Cloud offerings - a HiveMQ-hosted Cloud deployment - to self-managed options, such as our Community, Professional, and Enterprise HiveMQ editions.
For additional information like pricing and features, please take a look at the HiveMQ Cloud information page, which can be found here.
For self-managed options, HiveMQ Community Edition is open-source and free to use, whereas Professional and Enterprise editions offer some additional features out of the box, such as clustering support. Specifics between these versions can be found here.
Bear in mind that each of these self-managed options can be downloaded for evaluation and testing as well.
Best,
Aaron from the HiveMQ Team
