Router communication with cloud

can you guys help!! I am having trouble figuring out how to proceed to set up a router as a credential so I can connect to the cloud or what the approach is in order to do so. thanks

Hi @mechguy

To assist you further, please provide the following information:

  1. What type or brand of router are you using?
  2. Are you indeed trying to use your router as an MQTT client to connect to an MQTT broker in the cloud?
  3. Could you explain in more detail what specific issues or challenges you’re encountering during this setup? Any error messages or unexpected behavior you’ve observed?

With this information, I’ll be able to offer you more tailored guidance on setting up your router for cloud connectivity and MQTT usage.

it is an asus router and i am trying to design a network deployments map, where i connect a plc to the router and the router as a client to connect to the cloud. i have to figure how to use the router as AN EDGE DEVICES

@mechguy

For your router to act as an edge device and connect to the cloud as an MQTT client, it’s essential to check if your router’s firmware or software supports MQTT client functionality. Not all routers come with MQTT client capabilities out of the box, so you’ll need to verify this.

Here are the steps to determine if your ASUS router supports MQTT or if you need to install custom firmware:

  1. Check Router Documentation: Start by referring to the user manual or documentation that came with your ASUS router. Look for any mention of MQTT support or client functionality.

  2. Web Interface: Access your router’s web interface by entering its IP address in a web browser (commonly something like 192.168.1.1). Once logged in, explore the router’s settings and menus. Look for any MQTT-related settings or options.
